As previous mentioned, I've been in the exterior cleaning business for a while now. Seen a lot come and go, as they say. Along the way, I've learned to recognize "types" of customers:
There's the type who just wants the least amount of cleaning done for the least amount of money, just to get his wife off his back!
There's the type who knows the home's cedar exterior actually needs replacing and is long past the point of cleaning, but they're hoping I can somehow work a miracle.
There's the type who has spent 100 hours online in the past week researching the cleaning of cedar, and they now have a very specific notion of how they want their siding cleaned.
Etc.
Step back a bit, though, and most of these varying types of homeowners get lumped into the same overall category: homeowners who have made the most common biggest mistake I see. Here's how it plays out:
I'm done cleaning, I pack up the rig, take off my boots, and knock on the door to announce my departure. The homeowner comes outside, turns around, looks the the house, and their eyes pop out. Big smile emerges. Compliments erupt. And, eventually, the words, "I wish we'd done this sooner."
That's it right there ----> homeowners wait too long before having some sort of cleaning done. Seeing their clean deck, siding, or trim, etc makes them happy, and they wish they'd had it done it sooner. They wonder why they waited five years after they first noticed all the mold and grime. They wonder why they've spent weeks each season trying to do what I just did in a day.
I've seen too many homeowner express regret at waiting to have their deck, or their roof, or their trim cleaned up. So, my best advice to homeowners: whether it's putting in a butterfly bush, installing a stone Budda, or having some exterior cleaning done, don't postpone something that you can afford which will bring you joy. Life's too short.
